Estrella Mountain Ranch Golf Clubhouse
The interim clubhouse provides the Estrella community with quality
golf club, community dining and meeting space. The overall massing
concept creates a ‘hilltown’ or ‘village’ grouping
that gives the clubhouse a signature architectural form nestled into
the topography. The service yard and Cart Barn areas are enclosed with
screen walls to extend the mass of the main building down the hill.
The Cart Barn was designed so that carts could plug into battery chargers
recessed into perimeter piers, maintaining the interior of the yard
as clear space for unhampered circulation and as a future swimming
pool site.
Interior square footage was extended through layered sunscreen bays
that surround all sides of the building, providing shady entry through
the courtyard area into the main Tower space and extended dining and
pro shop space. Interior design focuses on modern western motifs, with
dark cherry wood as the primary material for casework and trim. This
project sets standards for effective, economical responses to desert
climate and sustainable design in the Sonoran desert region, all on
a shoe-string budget.
